Like many parents-to-be, it can be a long and difficult wait to find out the gender of their baby. Is it a boy or girl?! I’m sure friends and family have their own opinions and guesses, and even you may have a feeling that you are carrying one gender versus the other. However, until you take a blood test and/or your doctors confirms the sex of the baby, there is no way to know for sure. Still, that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun while waiting!
Here are some old wives’ tales to help you predict whether or not you are having a boy or girl:
1. How are you carrying?
Its been said that if you are carrying high it’s a girl, and if you are carrying low it’s a boy.
2. Do you know the baby’s heart rate?
A normal fetal heart rate is between 110-160 beats per minute. Boys are supposed to have a lower heart rate than girls.
3. Did your skin change?
It has been said that females take the beauty from the mother. If you find your skin is getting worse then you could be having a girl.
4. Did you have a lot of nausea?
If you are having a lot of nausea you could be having a girl. However, some mothers tend to have more nausea than others regardless of the sex of the baby.
5. Do you have any cravings?
If you are craving more meats and cheeses, you could be having a boy. If you are craving more sweets, according to many myths, it could mean it’s a girl.
6. What is the shape of your belly?
If your belly is all front, you could be having a boy. If you are carrying more on your side, rear, and thighs it could mean it’s a girl.
7. Are your feet colder or warmer than before pregnancy?
Having warmer feet during pregnancy is more likely associated with having a girl, while colder feet more with a boy.
8. Has the father been gaining weight?
Funnily enough, if you find dad gaining weight, this points more towards a boy.
