There are actually parents who are focused on delivering their child on a convenient-and-cute due date, 10/10/10.

Now, I actually am acquainted with a family where the dad has a birthday of 11/11 and the mom has a birthday of 12/12 and, yes, their son has a birthday of 6/6. But all that happened by chance.

On a parenting blog, there are parents who are wondering if they should schedule their C sections for that date; and others who are leaving it in nature's hands.

Those of us who are already parents know that these are insignificant things as compared to the big decisions in parenting, particularly those we cannot control!
Vaccinations

As you prepare for the birth of your child you are undoubtedly thinking of all the near-term issues you'll have to deal with as a parent of a newborn.  Many of us also begin to consider the merits and safety of vaccinations.  Most physicians recommend - or insist - on inoculations against the most common childhood diseases in order to keep our kids safe.  But in the past few years there has been discussion about a possible link between vaccinations and autism.

Here's a conversation between parents on the topic.  Let us know if you have any other factual information that we can add to the mix.

During the last few months of  Toni's pregnancy, her 4-year-old became curious.   "How did that baby get in Mommy's belly?"  As the wise grandfather, I answered, "Well, God decided it was time for Mommy and Daddy to have another baby, so he put her there."

She asked her mother, Toni,  the same question:  "How did that baby get in your belly?"  She replied,  "Well, Allison, God put the baby there."

In retrospect maybe we should have been clearer on who God is...

Visiting at an annual church gathering, Toni, Allison and I were chatting with friends, when Father Orr walked by.

"Hello!"  He addressed both Toni and Allison and questioned Toni quietly, "does she understand that you're expecting?"   Toni indicated yes, that Allison understood.

Father Orr addressed Allison.   "So Mommy is going to have a baby?"

Allison smiled and nodded, pretending to be shy.

"So, do you know if it's a boy or a girl?"  Directing the question to both Toni and Allison.

Toni was answering,  "Yes, it's another girl," when Allison interrupted and said very firmly to Father Orr, "Well, you should know, you put her there!"
