Bags vs. Syringes for Collection
Most cord blood is collected using collection bags. In some cases, it is possible to have the cord blood collected using a syringe rather than a bag.
While there are very few companies still using the syringe collection system, we want to explain the difference.
The syringe system allows the blood to be suctioned from the umbilical cord. The gravity bag method allows gravity to draw the blood from the umbilical cord. The bag system is a closed system; the cord blood is never exposed to the air (or potential contaminants). The syringe method is an open system; while the cord blood is transferred, it is exposed to air for a very brief period.
M.A.Z.E. Cord Blood Laboratories uses a gravity bag system. There are pros and cons to every system of cord blood collection and we believe that our system of cord blood preservation exposes the blood to as little risk of contamination or blood loss as possible. The safe preservation of your baby's cord blood is our utmost priority, which is the reason we chose this method.
